Finding New Anime on Reality Lapse
Although I don’t always reply to posts in the Reality Lapse forum, I regularly take a look at what people have to say. Recently, people having been making suggestions concerning ways to find similar anime on the site. This could be achieved by implementing a rating and review system in addition to sorting anime by genres. From a coding perspective, both are relatively simple tasks. In fact, I actually created a tagging system for the anime on the site based on information at Anime News Network a couple of days ago. However, now that I’ve started to work on them, these features can get a bit complicated.
In all honesty, I’m going to make the tagging system complex than it needs to be. The only reason why it isn’t more prominent on the site now is that my laptop is currently being repaired and the image file I would need to create a “tags” header is stored on it. However, each section’s information page has a list of its tags which link to other anime in the same category such as on the Bleach Page. I’m hoping to use these tags to automatically generate a list of related anime for each section, but I’ll need to collect some user data for this list to have any accuracy. For example, there are a lot of anime that have the “action” tag which are completely unrelated to each other. Right now annonymous download statistics should help with ensuring accuracy. Eventually however, I’m hoping to involve user contributions to make this system work as well as it possibly can. That brings me to my biggest hurdle concerning user contributions.
As I’ve said before, the system itself is relatively simple to do. However, Reality Lapse has two completely different sets of “members”. Some users enjoy the premium benefits of SpeedPass membership while others are simply forum members. SpeedPass members are stored on the site database which uses PostgreSQL while the forum uses MySQL. This is completely meaningless to most people, but it poses a slight problem in terms of integration. Two members can share a username on both systems but be completely different people, while the same person can also have different usernames. As soon as these problems are sorted out however, I plan to add ratings, reviews, and other content members may contribute.

Dude, I love what you’re doing! Now I don’t have to go around and hunt for material anymore (I used to torrent, megaupload, rapidshare…). My only real problem is that you’re kinda slow on the updates (very often a week late) but that’s ok.

i love ur realitylapse as well. but i don’t think you slowly update. your speed is quite fast and there are many many animes too. it’s obvious that time will be needed to do the update since he need to convert to .rmvb files.
Thanks.

Hey are you gonna be adding Code Geass season 2 to the site anytime soon?

For the episodes you add to realitylapse, do you put the subtitles on personally or not??
if so, can you place when the next episode should be or estimated to come out again, for example naruto, i know theres a new one every week, but could you add when and, possibly add when you will next update the site, saves people keep on refeshing the page now and again to see if its been updated.
if not, then never mind Lol. Good site though ^^ i have told other people about the site and told them to use it. Most people have ^_^
